Katherine Dreier

One of the most influential figures in modern art lived for a time in West Redding on Long Ridge Road. Her name was Katherine Dreier (1877-1952) and she was born in Brooklyn, New York and trained as an artist herself. But she is more well-known as a patron and collector of art. She travelled to Europe and befriended Marcel Duchamp and Man Ray. She became an avid collector of Duchamp and other modern artists and amassed a large collection which she had in her West Redding farmhouse. Duchamp was a frequent visitor. Ultimately she donated most of the collection to Yale and to the Guggenheim Museum.
