The Things They’ve Written

A recent New York Times review mentions that over 3500 titles of Vietnam War literature has been published. Many veterans of the that conflict, including Tim O’Brien who will be here in October to discuss his book The Things They Carried; have built careers writing about their experience.
Recently publiished fiction by veterans of the conflict include Tony award-winning playwright and novelist David Rabe’s newest Girl by the Road at Night subtitled “A Novel of Vietnam” a tragedy about two young people; a GI and a Vietnamese woman whose lives are turned upside down by the war. Author Karl Marlantes’ Matterhorn is an epic which one critic called “a realistic portrait and an elegant tribute to the nobility of men under fire.”
